Runners are reminded to register their entries – which can only be done online – by May 23, entries cannot be accepted on the day.
The clock is ticking down to Sunday, May 26, when hundreds of men, women and children will line up for the start of the 2019 Roc Newbury 10k race, along with its associated junior races.
The 10k race will start from the Market Place, Newbury, with runners being waved off by the Town Mayor and the West Berkshire Council Chairman, along with representatives from the race’s 2019 sponsors, Roc Technologies.
They will run around streets and woodland and canal footpaths before returning along Craven Road and Bartholomew Street to the Market Place where they will receive a well- earned medal and goody bag.
Junior participants will take part in shorter races over 900 metres and 1.5 km respectively, prior to the 10k race.
Roc Technologies Race Manager, Nicque Routen, said: “We’re all really looking forward to this big day, which is a great town event, and something in which entire families can get involved. The atmosphere in the market place this year will be fantastic as we have Kennet Radio assisting with music and announcements and BST Fitness carrying out the Junior race warm up session at 09:00. The entry competition prize will be handed out at the end of the main race event together with the goody bag hunt for the mystery Golden Ticket winner.”
“An event such as this is a great way for people to make their mark, not just by running to keep fit, but also – in many cases – to raise money for charity. The race itself is supporting two organisations, Wooden Spoon, which helps children and young people with physical disabilities, and race organiser Newbury Athletic Club, which provides an opportunity for runners of all ages to get involved in athletics.”
On the day, runners will be supported by many volunteer marshals, officials, and general helpers. There will be water stations around the course, and at the end they will receive a goody bag, which has been sponsored by BST Fitness filled with items from Natures Corner in Newbury.
Rebecca Elsmere, for Newbury AC, said: “Events will start at around 9am, and we’re expecting the last runners home at about 11.30am. We hope townsfolk will come out and cheer the runners on, particularly towards the end when they’ll need that extra boost to keep them going!”
