Thatcham Festival now in its 19th year is ringing the changes to their annual Festival. This year’s festival slimming down from 15 days to 9 days, still has a backbone of programmes and content geared towards showcasing Thatcham based Arts and Leisure organisations as well as maintaining all the events being free.
The Festival this year has reached out to the periphery of Berkshire to expand its content as well as ensuring that activity is specially created for the Festival. The showcased events are split categories which include Music, Theatre, Leisure and Learning, Exhibitions, Families and Talks.
Thatcham Photographic Club will present a photographic exhibition ‘Then and Now’ which contrasts old found photos with new photos taken by its members. Music is covered by Thatcham favourites such as nationally acclaimed Cold Ash Brass Band who will be performing the finale event of the Festival on Sunday 20th October. Festival favourites InCantata and Watership Cantabile will be showcasing their choral expertise in concerts at St Mary’s Church whilst by contrast Sion Wiley, who is creating a stir in the Newbury open mic scene, will be presenting an open mic night and hoping that it acts as a springboard to revitalise the acoustic music scene in Thatcham.
With popular events such as Thatcham Apple Day at the picturesque Nature Discovery Centre, a Leisure and Craft Fair, Art Exhibition and quirky events such as a Retro Computer Day presented by Newbury and District Hackspace there is something for everyone no matter what age or what their interests are.
