Newbury Town Council and Greenham Trust are giving £3,828 to assist projects helping vulnerable and at-risk communities in Newbury.
£2,928 of this cash will go to provide fresh meat and fish to 12 local families who have been identified by support workers. They are suffering hardship since the schools closed and school meals are no longer available. They can access the food banks and other sources for non-perishable foods and goods but there is a need for fresh food and meat which they are having difficulty to meet.
£900 will go to Newbury charity, Dingley’s Promise, which gives life changing support to under 5s with additional needs and disabilities. The money will go to help with cleaning as the charity’s facility re-opens under pandemic conditions. In addition, 28 families who are having to remain at home with their children will receive an interactive toy to relieve their burden.
Councillor Martin Colston, leader of Newbury Town Council, told Kennet Radio:
“Both of these are very deserving causes. We are so lucky to have people and organisations like these to help support the more vulnerable in our communities, especially at times like these. We’re delighted to support them with much-needed funds.”
These grants are in addition to £4,700 in donations approved last month for:

- West Berkshire Community Baby Bank
- Newbury Soup Kitchen
- Swings and Smiles
