Kennet Radio volunteer presenter, Carol Shipley, lived as a child in Denmark Street, Soho, London. This is known as Britain’s “Tin Pan Alley”, where music publishers and songwriters lived and worked.
Carol grew up there as her father, Norman Percival, pursued a highly successful career as a musical arranger and orchestrator. While there and subsequently in Barnes, Carol met many famous musicians through her father. The world famous pianist, Russ Conway, was Carol’s godfather.
At Newbury’s Retrofestival 2022, Carol spoke with Kennet Radio’s Paul Walter on the Saturday Chatterday show, live from Newbury Showground.
