This year Newbury Apple Day will be back in Newbury Market Place on Saturday 9th October from 9am until 3.30pm. The organisers have been busy collecting apples from local gardens and community orchards to make into delicious juice. The whole family can get involved in ‘scratting’ the apples (mincing them) and then turning the handle on the apple press. If you have a tree in your garden and have more apples than you can use then don’t let them go to waste, bring them along on the day for juicing.
We will have home-made apple cakes and other baked goods on sale as well as some local apple juice. If you have an apple tree in your garden that you can’t identify then bring along a sample of an apple and some leaves and our expert will have a go at giving it a name.
“It is lovely to see children and adults having fun pressing fruit that would otherwise have been wasted and everyone loves the super fresh juice produced” said Helen Wright one of the organisers.
Newbury Apple Day is run by volunteers who are interested in doing their bit for the environment by reducing food waste and encouraging people to plant fruit trees in their gardens.
