Newbury in Bloom, together with Newbury Town Council are further enhancing Newbury’s open spaces by planting vivid purple crocus bulbs at Blossom’s Field (Wash Common), Old Hospital Green, City Recreation Ground and Walton Way play area in November.
Volunteers are invited to come along, bring a trowel or spade and gardening gloves to help to be a part of planting 6000 crocus bulbs across Newbury, in support of the Purple4Polio initiative created by the Rotary Club of Great Britain and Ireland. Planting the purple crocus corms is also a great way of getting active within the community. The colour purple signifies the colour dye used on the little finger of a child who has received their life saving polio drops on mass polio immunisation days in many countries, to show they have received their life saving vaccine.
You can join in across all three sites on the following days from 10am to 2pm:
Saturday 13 November at Blossom’s Field, Wash Common
Sunday 21 November at Old Hospital Green and City Recreation Ground, Andover Road
Sunday 28 November at Walton Way Play Park

We are inviting everyone to take part and help plant the bulbs. The areas will be identified, ready for the bulbs to be planted so we are encouraging you to please bring a trowel or a spade and come and take part in this community event. Bulb planting in these areas will further enhance Newbury’s open spaces and recreations ground for everyone making a beautiful show in the Spring. Newbury Town Council are sponsoring this event for the whole Community to enjoy.
