93% of West Berkshire’s children will be offered a place in their preferred Primary school today.
This means that from the 1792 applications for primary school admissions received by West Berkshire Council this year, 1670 pupils got their first choice, 4% (71) their second and 1% (23) their third. In total, 98% were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.
Ian Pearson, Head of Education at West Berkshire Council said, said:
“I’m really pleased that so many children in West Berkshire will have a place in their chosen school this year. We work hard to meet demand and to place as many children as possible in their preferred schools.”
This year most parents again chose to apply online with 94% of applications completed through the West Berkshire Council website – up from 92% last year and 92% in 2016.
While the vast majority of children are given a preferred place in West Berkshire each year, there is an appeals process for those who do not.
